Nail Design: Bronze/Princess Glitter

Here's a design I did today. I just wanted something really girly and I'm pretty sure this is as girly as you can get. First I polished my nails with Petites: "Bronze Baby." Then I started designing each nail with a cute glitter design with Petites: "Comet," which is the pink glitter and KISS: "Silver Glitter." Then I added a bow on one of fingers. I bought the bows off of Ebay for like $1 last month. So I decided to used them today since it seemed so appropriate.

Hair Update: Still Going Strong!

I am so proud of myself. I have stayed consistent on my rollersetting regimen for 6 weeks, so far. My hair is loving me for this. This is the healthiest my hair has really been in such a long time. YAY!!! Also, I am currently 6 weeks post relaxer. I would like to stretch it to 12 weeks, but I have an audition in 2 weeks. I'm still debating on whether I should relax at 8 weeks or just press out the roots real good instead. Other than that dilemma, everything seems to be looking up on my hair progress. My new growth is just crazy right now. Between the vitamins, exercising 3-4 times a week, and massaging, I currently have 3/4 inches of new growth so far. So I'm staying hopeful that I will have at least 1 inch by the time I get my touch up. *I'll keep my fingers crossed*

What To Get For Mom?

Alright, Mother's day is in two weeks...and if you're like me you're probably trying to top last years gift. I honestly still don't know what to get her. I have alot of I ideas but I'm still not sure. The only thing she's mentioned was she wanted a really good pot set. Well, up until last week I was planning on getting that for her, until she went and ordered one online for herself (HINT FOR THE MOTHERS OUT THERE: Please refrain from buying yourselves anything when Mother's day is so close. Your making it very hard for your kids when you do this.) So now I'm back at square one. Last year I bought my mom an edible arrangements bouquet. She love it, but I don't want to give her the same thing two times in a row.

Well here are some of the ideas I came up with so far:

  • Bouquet of flowers
  • Send her to the spa
  • Gift basket of hair products
  • Take her out to dinner
Oh I'm still debating, but if anybody has any other great ideas, please LET ME KNOW!

I BIG CHOPPED!!!!

lol...Don't worry, not my hair, just my nails. Well, a day after I posted about my broken nail, I ended up breaking two more. So today I just decided to do a big chop on them. I cut down the other nails to match close enough to the broken nails. They look way better now. It just looked too weird having long nails on some fingers and broken short nails on the other fingers. ANYWHO...I did a quick manicure just to get me thru the weekend. I polished my nails with Sinful Colors "Fui" (Purple) and "Paris" (Gold Glitter). Nothing major...just needed something to get me through the rest of this week.

Chick Flix : Mamma Mia!

OMG...I love this movie. To be quite honest I never saw the play, but after watching this movie, I will definitely go see it live. I loved the beautiful colors, the setting, and the great, catchy music to sing-a-long to. The movie stars the legendary Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried from "Mean Girls," Stellan Skarsgard, Pierce Brosnan the hot "James Bond," and Colin Firth. It was great seeing James Bond sing, too! Also, I must say this cast was well put together. I love this movie, and this is definitely a great chick flick! You can view the movie HERE!

Never Too Many Hair Accessories

A girl can never have too many hair accessories...especially if protective styling is your hairstyle of choice. Protective styling can sometimes become boring and monotonous. Because I wear buns almost all the time, I have to put in a little effort to spice it up. Hair accessories like headbands and cute clips help out alot. I dress up my hair without having to change or manipulate the hair too much. Plus, I can continue to protective style without the temptation or need to change my style too much because of boredom.

Here's my collection so far...It's still growing but so far I've got a bunch of headbands to match almost every outfit. Also I can't go on without my barrettes (bo-bo clips). And my all time favorite is the duck bills (control clips). Of course I plan to definitely add to this collection as I continue my hair journey. I'm looking into trying out those hair zings, too.

Grrr!!!....It Broke!

I have been babying and taking great care of my nails for a long time now. But of course, with longer nails you have to be extremely careful and gentle with everything you do. Well evidently, I wasn't as gentle as I could be because the nail on my poindexter (trigger) finger broke. This makes me upset because it puts a big damper on all of my cute manicures. So now I have to wait 2 whole months for it to get back to it's original length. I refuse to cut the rest of the nails. So until then, I'll be rocking cute bandages on that finger til' it starts to look great again. Darn it! It looks like the ugly step-child of the family. Okay my rant is over.

Just in case your wonder what that nice color is on my nails it's Sinful Colors "Satin." I love this color cause' it makes your nails looks so soft and elegant. Plus, it makes your nails appear even longer than they really are. Hint, Hint, that's why I put it on the nail that broke...lol!

Don't worry ladies I'll still put up photos of my cute nail manicures...I'll just do the designs on my other hand.

Finally Some Creamy Whipped Shea Butter!

Hey Ladies! Okay...I bid and won a hand mixer off of Ebay last weekend and finally received it today. I am so happy because now I can whip my shea butter into some creamy goodness...lol. I had been previously whipping it with just a fork. Basically, I didn't get the results I had desired while using the fork. So I stopped being cheap and finally bought a hand mixer. So last night I whipped Shea Butter with some Vatika oil and boy was it the results I had been craving for so long. It was so creamy and smooth. Perfect to use in my hair. I had been using shea butter lately since I've been rollersetting my hair and it works just perfectly.

So here is the finished product:
I also bought a tin jar to put the shea butter in and a plastic jar to empty out my three bottles of Vatika oil in. It makes it easier to use now.

Here's how I received the perfect results:

  • I first softened down the shea butter in the microwave for 1 minute. I didn't melt it completely. I just made it soft enough to mix. (Yes I know alot of people will disagree with the microwave part but I was in a hurry. So if you don't want to microwave it you can always boil some water and let the bowl with shea butter sit over the boiled water as it melts.)
  • Then I added about 3 tablespoons of vatika oil into the softened shea butter.
  • Then I placed the bowl of Shea Butter in the freezer for about 3 minutes.
  • Once I removed it from the freezer, I used the hand mixer on the lowest setting to mix the shea butter for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Now the trick to making the Shea Butter stay creamy and not hardening up back to it's originally form/texture, is to keep putting it in the freezer every 5-7 minutes after using the hand mixer. ex: I would put the shea butter in the freezer, then mix for 5-7 min. Then I'd put it back in the freezer for 5 min. and then mix again for 5 min. I repeat these steps about 5-6 times so that it can maintain consistency.
  • After your done with this process, you won't have to keep mixing it over and over again every time you want to use it because now it will remain creamy and smooth instead of going back to it's old form/texture.

Product Review: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri

My nail polish collection is really growing...lol. Well while strolling thru Walmart I decided to pick up some new colors. I usually buy my polish from Walgreen's since I love Sinful Colors. But I decided to try a new brand for a change. So Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color caught my eye.

I picked up the #17 Mochachino, #14 Flashy Fuchsia, and my new favorite #10 Lightening.

Here's what Sally Hansen's website claims:

  • One-stroke application.
  • One-coat coverage.
  • Dries in 60 seconds!
  • Perfectionist Brush delivers a fast, flawless application that dries to a shiny finish in 60 seconds.
  • Available in 24 irresistible shades!
My Review:
So far I absolutely love this brand. It literally drys within seconds. When I saw the brush for the first time I was puzzled at why it was so wide. But once I started using it, I only needed to do one stroke to complete the nail application. I didn't need to do two coats at all. The first coat was enough and matched the exact color of the bottles they were in. I wore the Mochachino without a topcoat this week and on the fourth day it did chip a bit...but other than that I give this a passing grade.
